एषामेकैकशोडर्थानां सौक्ष्म्यादीनां स्वलक्षणम्‌ | शृणु संसार्यमाणानां पदार्थयदवाक्यत:,ये जो सौक्ष्म्य आदि अर्थ हैं, ये पद, वाक्य, पदार्थ और वाक्यार्थरूपसे खोलकर बताये जा रहे हैं। आप इनमेंसे एक-एकका अलग-अलग लक्षण सुनिये

eṣām ekaikaśo 'rthānāṁ saukṣmyādīnāṁ svalakṣaṇam | śṛṇu saṁsāryamāṇānāṁ padārthayad avākyataḥ ||

Bhīṣma berkata: Sekarang dengarkan ciri pembeda masing-masing makna itu—mulai dari saukṣmya—sebagaimana diuraikan melalui kata, kalimat, makna kata, dan makna keseluruhan kalimat; dengarkan satu per satu.
