अध्याय २९७ — श्रेयः, धृति, दान-नियमाः
Welfare, Steadfastness, and Norms of Giving
राजन! संसारमें पिता, सखा, गुरुजन और स्त्रियाँ--ये कोई भी उसके नहीं होते, जो सर्वथा गुणहीन हैं; किंतु जो प्रभुके अनन्य भक्त, प्रियवादी, हितैषी और इन्द्रियविजयी हैं, वे ही उसके होते हैं अर्थात् उसका त्याग नहीं करते
rājan! saṃsāre pitā sakhā gurujanāḥ striyaś ca—ete ko'pi tasya na bhavanti yo'ntyantaṃ guṇahīnaḥ; kintu ye prabhoḥ ananya-bhaktāḥ priyavādinaḥ hitaiṣiṇa indriya-jayinaś ca te eva tasya bhavanti, arthāt taṃ na tyajanti.
Parāśara berkata: “Wahai Raja, di dunia ini ayah, sahabat, para sesepuh dan guru, bahkan istri pun tidak sungguh-sungguh tetap bersama orang yang sepenuhnya tanpa kebajikan. Namun mereka yang berbhakti tunggal kepada Tuhan, yang bertutur manis sekaligus benar, yang menghendaki kebaikan bagi sesama, dan yang menaklukkan indria—merekalah yang benar-benar menjadi miliknya; mereka tidak meninggalkannya.”
