Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
गच्छावधानं नृपते ततो दु:खं प्रहास्यसि । “नरेश्वर! मैं पूर्ववर्ती राजाओंके महान् सौभाग्यका वर्णन करता हूँ। सुनो और सावधान हो जाओ। इससे तुम्हारा दुःख दूर हो जायगा
gacchāvadhānaṃ nṛpate tato duḥkhaṃ prahāsyasi |
Vāyu berkata: “Perhatikan baik-baik, wahai raja; maka engkau akan menanggalkan dukamu. Aku akan menguraikan kebesaran nasib baik para raja zaman dahulu—dengarkan dengan pikiran terpusat, niscaya dukamu akan sirna.”
वायुदेव उवाच
Focused listening and attentive reflection on exemplary narratives (here, the fortunes and conduct of earlier kings) is presented as a practical means to overcome grief and regain steadiness of mind.
Vāyudeva addresses a king in a consolatory, instructive tone, urging him to be attentive; Vāyu then prepares to recount accounts of former kings whose great fortune (and implied dharmic conduct) will help relieve the king’s present sorrow.
