नक्तंचर्या दिवास्वप्रमालस्यं पैशुनं मदम्‌ | अतियोगमयोगं च श्रेयसो<र्थी परित्यजेत्‌,कल्याण चाहनेवाला पुरुष रातमें घूमना, दिनमें सोना, आलस्य, चुगली, मादक वस्तुका सेवन, आहार-विहारका अधिक मात्रामें सेवन और उसका सर्वथा त्याग--ये सब बातें त्याग दे

naktaṃcaryā divāsvapram ālasyaṃ paiśunaṃ madam | atiyogam ayogaṃ ca śreyaso 'rthī parityajet ||

Nārada berkata: Siapa yang mencari kesejahteraan sejati hendaknya meninggalkan kebiasaan-kebiasaan ini: berkeliaran pada malam hari, tidur di siang hari, kemalasan, mengadu domba dengan fitnah, mabuk-mabukan, serta dua ekstrem dalam pola makan dan laku hidup—berlebihan dan pantang total. Pengendalian diri demikian menopang hidup yang tertuju pada kebaikan.
