यत्‌ तु निश्रेयसं सम्यक्‌ तच्चैवासंशयात्मकम्‌

yat tu niśreyasaṃ samyak tac caivāsaṃśayātmakam | suhṛdām anugrahaḥ śatrubhāva-dhāriṇāṃ duṣṭānāṃ daṇḍanaṃ tathā dharmārtha-kāma-saṃgrahaś ca—idaṃ manīṣiṇaḥ śreya ity āhuḥ ||

Apa yang sungguh menuntun pada kebaikan tertinggi (niḥśreyasa), bila dipahami dengan benar, pada hakikatnya bebas dari keraguan. Berbuat anugerah kepada para sahabat baik, menghukum orang jahat yang memelihara permusuhan, serta menegakkan dan menghimpun tiga tujuan—dharma, artha, dan kāma—itulah yang oleh orang bijak disebut śreyas.
