Do not waste the mind in anxiety over what has not happened or regret over what is finished; perform the duty that is presently due, without binding oneself through impulsive vows.
In Śānti Parva’s instruction on conduct and inner discipline, the speaker Jaigiṣavya describes the disposition of the wise: they stay anchored in the present duty, free from future-oriented worry and past-oriented sorrow.
