Adhyāya 199: Karma–Jñāna Causality and the Nirguṇa Brahman
Manu’s Instruction
तस्मिन्नेवाथ काले तु तीर्थयात्रामुपागत: । इक्ष्वाकुरगमत् तत्र समेता यत्र ते विभो,इसी समय तीर्थयात्राके लिये आये हुए राजा इक्ष्वाकु भी उस स्थानपर आ पहुँचे, जहाँ वे सब लोग एकत्र हुए थे
tasminnevātha kāle tu tīrthayātrām upāgataḥ | ikṣvākur agamat tatra sametā yatra te vibho ||
Bhishma berkata: “Tepat pada saat itu, Raja Ikshvaku yang sedang menempuh ziarah ke tirtha pun tiba di tempat yang sama, tempat semua yang mulia itu telah berkumpul, wahai yang perkasa.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse foregrounds tīrtha-yātrā (pilgrimage) as a dharmic practice for rulers, suggesting that ethical authority and spiritual merit are reinforced through engagement with sacred spaces and assemblies of the virtuous.
At the moment being described, King Ikshvaku, who is on pilgrimage, arrives at the gathering place where the others are already assembled, marking a narrative transition as a new royal participant enters the scene.
