Adhyāya 199: Karma–Jñāna Causality and the Nirguṇa Brahman
Manu’s Instruction
Bhīṣma gives a twofold assurance: (1) the listener’s spiritual destiny is exalted—attaining the blameless, unconditioned ‘abode of Brahmā’; and (2) the practical aim for which Bhīṣma has been requested to speak will indeed be accomplished. Ethically, it reinforces confidence in dharmic counsel and its promised fruition.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction-setting, Bhīṣma addresses the inquirer (implicitly Yudhiṣṭhira) and affirms both the inquirer’s future attainment and the successful completion of the purpose behind the request for Bhīṣma’s teachings.
