Śānti-parva 168: Śoka-nivṛtti-buddhi (The Cognition that Reduces Grief) and Piṅgalā’s Nairāśya
नकुलसहदेवावूचतुः आसीनश्न शयानश्ष विचरन्नपि वा स्थित: । अर्थयोगं दृढं कुर्याद् योगैरुच्चावचैरपि
nakula-sahadevāv ūcatuḥ—āsīnaś ca śayānaś ca vicarann api vā sthitaḥ | arthayogaṁ dṛḍhaṁ kuryād yogair uccāvacair api ||
Nakula dan Sahadeva berkata: “Wahai Raja, entah seseorang sedang duduk, berbaring, berjalan, ataupun berdiri diam, hendaknya ia meneguhkan artha-yoga—sarana penghidupan dan kemakmuran—dengan upaya dari segala macam, yang kecil maupun yang besar.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
One should be continuously attentive to strengthening one’s artha—i.e., the practical means of livelihood and resources—using appropriate methods of every scale. The verse emphasizes steady, disciplined effort rather than sporadic action.
Within the didactic discourse of the Śānti Parva, Nakula and Sahadeva present counsel on practical statecraft and personal conduct, stressing constant vigilance in maintaining and increasing resources, regardless of one’s posture or activity.
