The verse frames ethical instruction through direct experiential demonstration: a wise king uses yogic insight to reveal the consequences of karma—heaven for merit and hell for wrongdoing—so that warriors understand dharma not merely as theory but as accountable action with results.
Bhishma introduces King Janaka as a realized ruler. Janaka makes his own warriors witness heaven and hell by yogic power, setting the stage for a moral address meant to guide their conduct and understanding of righteous action.
