भ्रातृभि: समयं कृत्वा क्षान्तवान्‌ धर्मवत्सल: । द्यूतच्छलजितै: शुद्धैर्वनवासो हुपागतः,“धर्मवत्सल युधिष्ठिरने अपने भाइयोंके साथ नियत समयकी प्रतीक्षा करते हुए सारा कष्ट चुपचाप सहन किया था। पाण्डव शुद्धभावसे आपके पास आये थे तो भी उन्हें कपट॒पूर्वक जूएमें हराकर वनवास दिया गया

bhrātṛbhiḥ samayaṃ kṛtvā kṣāntavān dharmavatsalaḥ | dyūtacchalajitaiḥ śuddhair vanavāso hy upāgataḥ ||

Waiśampāyana berkata: “Setelah membuat kesepakatan dengan saudara-saudaranya dan menanti masa yang ditetapkan, Yudhiṣṭhira yang mencintai dharma menanggung derita dengan kesabaran. Namun mereka yang berhati suci itu dikalahkan oleh tipu daya perjudian, sehingga hukuman pembuangan ke hutan pun menimpa mereka.”
