The Fall of Duryodhana and the Contest of Restraint
तदेवं विजय: प्राप्त: पुन: संशयित: कृत: । महान् प्रयास करके भीष्म आदि कौरवोंको मारकर विजय एवं श्रेष्ठ यशकी प्राप्ति की गयी और वैरका पूरा-पूरा बदला चुकाया गया था। इस प्रकार जो विजय प्राप्त हुई थी
tadevaṁ vijayaḥ prāptaḥ punaḥ saṁśayitaḥ kṛtaḥ |
Vāyu berkata, “Demikianlah kemenangan sungguh telah diraih; namun kini kembali dilemparkan ke dalam keraguan. Setelah jerih payah yang amat besar—setelah menewaskan Bhīṣma dan para jawara Kaurava lainnya—kemenangan dan kemasyhuran tertinggi telah diperoleh, dan dendam permusuhan telah terbalas sepenuhnya. Tetapi kemenangan yang susah payah itu kini dibuat tidak pasti lagi.”
वायुदेव उवाच
Hard-won success can be undermined when one reopens doubt and indecision; ethical responsibility includes safeguarding the fruits of righteous effort and not letting past sacrifices become futile through renewed confusion.
Vāyu reflects on the war’s outcome: after tremendous struggle and the fall of major Kaurava warriors such as Bhīṣma, victory and renown were achieved and the feud seemingly settled—yet someone’s later actions or wavering has cast that victory into uncertainty again.
