Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report
Even amid the devastation of war, the text upholds a kṣatriya-coded ethic of honoring the fallen: to remember them respectfully, acknowledge their passage to svarga, and maintain courteous concern rather than hatred alone.
Sañjaya reports a message that includes greeting and embracing notable warriors—Jayadratha (Saindhava), Somadatta, and Bhūriśravas—and extending the same respectful acknowledgment to other kings who have already died and are conceived as residing in heaven.
