Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel on Restraint and the Pāṇḍavas’ Authorized Return (धृतराष्ट्र-उपदेशः)
चरम॑ संविशति या प्रथम प्रतिबुध्यते । आगोपालाविपालेभ्य: सर्व वेद कृताकृतम्
caramaṁ saṁviśati yā prathamā pratibudhyate | āgopālāvipālebhyaḥ sarvaṁ veda kṛtākṛtam ||
Ia berbaring paling akhir dan bangun paling awal—bahkan lebih lambat tidur daripada para penggembala sapi dan domba. Ia mencatat segalanya: apa yang telah dikerjakan dan apa yang masih tersisa.
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse praises vigilant, selfless responsibility: a truly dutiful person (especially in a household or administrative role) rests last, rises first, and maintains clear awareness of what has been completed and what still needs to be done.
Yudhiṣṭhira is describing the qualities of an exemplary, hardworking figure—someone whose daily discipline and careful oversight surpass even that of pastoral workers—emphasizing constant attentiveness to duties and outcomes.
