Duryodhana’s Humiliation in the Hall of Māyā
The verse highlights reverence toward truthful speech and the ethical demand to seek clarity about grave matters. Even a powerful figure approaches knowledge with humility (joined palms) and insists on hearing the truth rather than relying on rumor or partial information.
Bhishma responds to a prior utterance about his son. He respectfully calls upon the speaker—whether divine or otherwise—to repeat the statement and explicitly answer who will be the instrumental cause (nimitta) of the son’s death.
