Maya’s Construction of the Assembly Hall
शोभार्थ विहितास्तत्र न तु दृष्टान्तत: कृता: । अन्रेष्टवा स गत: सिद्धि सहस््राक्ष: शचीपति:,यह सब शोभाके लिये बनाया गया था, शास्त्रीय विधि अथवा सिद्धान्तके अनुसार नहीं। सहस्र नेत्रोंवाले शचीपति इन्द्रने भी वहीं यज्ञ करके सिद्धि प्राप्त की थी
śobhārthaṃ vihitās tatra na tu dṛṣṭāntataḥ kṛtāḥ | anveṣṭavā sa gataḥ siddhiṃ sahasrākṣaḥ śacīpatiḥ ||
Waiśampāyana berkata: “Tatanan di sana dibuat demi kemegahan dan pertunjukan, bukan sebagai teladan yang mengikat atau preseden. Namun Indra—penguasa Śacī, yang bermata seribu—pun, setelah mencarinya, pergi ke sana dan meraih keberhasilan (siddhi) dengan melaksanakan kurban suci.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
External grandeur may be arranged merely for display and need not constitute a binding scriptural precedent; nevertheless, true accomplishment (siddhi) is linked to purposeful seeking and rightly directed ritual effort, exemplified by Indra’s attainment through sacrifice.
The narrator clarifies that certain features described were created for magnificence rather than as normative models. He then notes that Indra, famed as the thousand‑eyed lord of Śacī, sought success and attained it there by performing a yajña.
