In the midst of catastrophe, wise attendants restrain and steady those overwhelmed by grief, creating the conditions for right counsel. The verse highlights the ethical duty of advisors—supporting the afflicted, restoring composure, and guiding a ruler back toward dharma rather than letting sorrow and confusion govern decisions.
Gāndhārī and Dhṛtarāṣṭra are overcome; Vidura physically supports Gāndhārī while Saṃjaya supports the king. Together they seat Dhṛtarāṣṭra and begin to speak to him, attempting to calm him and offer guidance during the unfolding tragedy of the war.
