(ततस्तु तौ वै पुरुषप्रवीरी राजन्‌ वरौ सर्वधनुर्धराणाम्‌ । त्यक्त्वा55त्मदेहौ समरे5तिघोरे प्राप्तश्रमौ शत्रुदुरासदौ हि ।। दृष्टवा तु तौ संयति सम्प्रयुक्तौ परस्परं छिद्रनिविष्टदृष्टी । देवर्षिगन्धर्वगणा: सयक्षा: संतुष्टवुस्ती पितरश्न हृष्टा: ।॥।) राजन! सम्पूर्ण धनुर्धारियोंमें श्रेष्ठ वे दोनों नरवीर उस भयानक समरमें अपने शरीरोंका मोह छोड़कर बड़ा भारी परिश्रम कर रहे थे, वे दोनों ही शत्रुओंके लिये दुर्जय थे। युद्धमें तत्पर होकर एक-दूसरेके छिद्रोंकी ओर दृष्टि रखनेवाले उन दोनों वीरोंको देखकर देवता, ऋषि, गन्धर्व, यक्ष और पितर सभी हर्षमें भरकर उनकी प्रशंसा करने लगे। तौ संदधानावनिशं च राजन्‌ समस्यन्तौ चापि शराननेकान्‌ | संदर्शयेतां युधि मार्गान्‌ विचित्रान्‌ धनुर्धरी तौ विविधै कृतास्त्रै:,राजन! निरन्तर अनेकानेक बाणोंका संधान और प्रहार करते हुए वे दोनों धनुर्थर वीर सिद्ध किये हुए विविध अस्त्रोंद्वारा युद्धमें अद्भुत पैंतरे दिखाने लगे

tatastu tau vai puruṣapravīrau rājan varau sarvadhanurdharāṇām |

tyaktvātmadehau samare'tighore prāptaśramau śatrudurāsadau hi ||

dṛṣṭvā tu tau saṃyati samprayuktau parasparaṃ chidraniviṣṭadṛṣṭī |

devarṣigandharvagaṇāḥ sayakṣāḥ santuṣṭuvus te pitaras ca hṛṣṭāḥ ||

tau sandadhānāv aniśaṃ ca rājan samasyantau cāpi śarān anekān |

sandarśayetāṃ yudhi mārgān vicitrān dhanurdharī tau vividhaiḥ kṛtāstraiḥ ||

Sañjaya berkata: “Wahai Raja, kemudian kedua insan utama itu—yang terbaik di antara semua pemanah—dalam pertempuran yang amat mengerikan itu menanggalkan keterikatan pada tubuh mereka sendiri dan bertempur dengan jerih payah yang luar biasa. Sungguh, keduanya sukar didekati dan ditundukkan oleh musuh. Melihat mereka saling terikat dalam laga, masing-masing menatap celah (titik lemah) lawannya, para dewa, resi, dan Gandharwa beserta para Yakṣa memuji mereka dengan sukacita; para Pitṛ pun bersorak gembira. Dan, wahai Raja, tanpa henti mereka memasang anak panah pada busur dan melepaskannya dalam hujan tembakan yang tak terbilang; kedua pemanah itu, mahir dalam beragam senjata yang telah disempurnakan, menampilkan manuver menakjubkan dan berbagai jalur siasat di medan perang.”
