Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how deeds in war gain moral and strategic weight when performed openly before respected witnesses—publicly demonstrated prowess can strengthen one side’s confidence and unsettle the other, shaping the ethical and psychological landscape of battle.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that a significant act (described in the surrounding verses) was carried out in the sight of leading Pāṇḍava-aligned figures—Dhṛṣṭadyumna, Bhīma, Śatānīka—and the assembled Pāñcāla and Cedi warriors, emphasizing that it occurred openly and unmistakably.
