अथवा परितोषस्ते वाचोक््त्वा सुमना भव | न स शक्यो युधा जेतुमन्यं कुरु मनोरथम्,अथवा यदि तुम्हें इसीसे संतोष होता है तो वाणीमात्रसे अर्जुनके वधकी चर्चा करके मन-ही-मन प्रसन्न हो लो। परंतु वास्तवमें युद्धके द्वारा कोई भी अर्जुनको जीत नहीं सकता। अत: अब तुम कोई और ही मनसूबा बाँधो
athavā paritoṣas te vācoktvā sumanā bhava | na sa śakyo yudhā jetum anyaṃ kuru manoratham ||
Śalya berkata: “Jika itu membuatmu puas, maka ucapkan saja tentang membunuh Arjuna dan biarkan hatimu berseri. Namun sesungguhnya, tak seorang pun dapat menaklukkan Arjuna dalam perang. Karena itu, bulatkan tekad yang lain.”
