विन्दानुविन्दावावन्त्यौ विराट दशभि: शरै: । आजल्नतुः सुसंक्रुद्धौं तव पुत्रहितैषिणौं,आपके पुत्रका हित चाहनेवाले अवन्तीके राजकुमार विन्द और अनुविन्दने अत्यन्त कुपित हो राजा विराटको दस बाण मारे
vindānuvindāv āvantyau virāṭaṃ daśabhiḥ śaraiḥ | ājaghnatuḥ susaṃkruddhau tava putrahitaiṣiṇau ||
Vindā dan Anuvindā, para pangeran Avanti, dengan amarah menyala dan demi kepentingan putramu, menghantam Raja Virāṭa di pertempuran dengan sepuluh anak panah.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how political loyalty and the desire to secure a leader’s advantage can drive warriors to intense aggression in battle; it implicitly raises the ethical tension between personal allegiance (seeking the prince’s welfare) and the destructive means employed in war.
During the fighting, the Avanti princes Vindā and Anuvindā, fighting for the Kaurava side and aiming to benefit Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s son, shoot King Virāṭa with ten arrows.
