शुष्काशन्यश्न निष्पेतु: सनिर्घाता: सविद्युत: । चचाल चापि पृथिवी सशैलवनकानना,बिना वर्षके ही वज्र गिरने लगे। आकाशमें बिजलीकी चमकके साथ भयंकर गर्जना होने लगी। पर्वत, वन और काननोंसहित पृथ्वी काँपने लगी
sañjaya uvāca | śuṣkāśany aśni niṣpetuḥ sanirghātāḥ savidyutaḥ | cacāla cāpi pṛthivī saśailavanakānanā ||
Sañjaya berkata: Tanpa hujan pun, petir menyambar dari langit yang kering, disertai gelegar dahsyat dan kilat yang menyala-nyala. Bumi bergetar, bersama gunung-gunung, rimba, dan belukar—seakan alam pun terguncang oleh kedahsyatan perang.
