Droṇa-parva 55
ह्ृदयेन मया पूर्व वृतां वै वृतवानसि । यस्माद् वृता त्वया विप्र मा गा: स्वर्ग यथेप्सया,“ब्रह्मन! मैंने मन-ही-मन पहले ही जिसका वरण कर लिया था, उसीका तुमने वरण किया है। अतः तुमने मेरी मनोनीत पत्नीको वर लिया है, इसलिये अब तुम इच्छानुसार स्वर्गमें नहीं जा सकते”
hṛdayena mayā pūrvaṃ vṛtāṃ vai vṛtavān asi | yasmād vṛtā tvayā vipra mā gāḥ svargaṃ yathepsayā ||
“Wahai brāhmaṇa, perempuan yang telah kupilih lebih dahulu di dalam hati, justru itulah yang kau pilih. Karena engkau, wahai vipra, telah mengambil istri yang telah kutetapkan dalam batin, maka kini engkau takkan dapat pergi ke surga menurut kehendakmu sendiri.”
