Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical gravity of war: outcomes hinge not only on numbers but on the presence and resolve of foremost warriors. It underscores vigilance and clear-sighted assessment in crisis—recognizing when forces are faltering and where decisive agency (here, Droṇa and Karṇa) is concentrated.

Sañjaya reports battlefield developments, addressing Kṛṣṇa as Vārṣṇeya. He points out that the Kauravas are pushing back the opposing troops, and he draws attention to Droṇa and Karṇa—two principal Kaurava champions—who are actively and earnestly fighting as leading mahārathas.
