द्वाभ्यां जातो हि मातृभ्यामर्धदेह: पृथक् पृथक् जरया संधितो यस्माज्जरासंधस्ततो5भवत्,उसका आधा-आधा शरीर अलग-अलग दो माताओंके पेटसे पैदा हुआ था। जराने उसे जोड़ा था; इसीलिये उसका नाम जरासंध हुआ
dvābhyāṁ jāto hi mātṛbhyām ardha-dehaḥ pṛthak pṛthak | jarayā sandhito yasmāj jarāsandhas tato 'bhavat ||
Ia lahir dari dua ibu, tubuhnya terbelah menjadi dua bagian yang terpisah. Karena seorang perempuan tua bernama Jarā menyambungkannya, ia pun dikenal sebagai Jarāsandha.
