Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how fear and momentum in war can rapidly dissolve collective order: when a powerful attacker routs troops, even a large army disperses like wind-tossed clouds. Ethically, it underscores the kṣatriya ideal of steadiness—leaders must act decisively to check a destructive force and prevent wider collapse.

Sañjaya describes a night-time scene where the Pāṇḍava forces are being driven into flight and scattered. A warning is issued to Karṇa that a formidable chariot-warrior is charging swiftly, and he should be restrained/stopped—framing an urgent tactical moment amid the chaos of the midnight battle.
