Saṃśaptakas in Candrārdha-vyūha; Arjuna’s Devadatta and the Traigarta Rout
Chapter 17

The verse reflects a warrior-ethic logic: accomplishing an extraordinarily difficult martial objective is believed to yield great religious merit and access to desired heavenly realms. It also highlights how ethical reasoning in war can be framed in terms of karma and promised posthumous reward.
Sanjaya reports the Kaurava-side confidence that if they can achieve the near-impossible feat of killing Arjuna in the ongoing battle, they will secure the highest wished-for rewards, speaking with certainty about the outcome’s spiritual payoff.
