Droṇa-parva 139
तदिदं समनुप्राप्तं क्षत्तुर्नि:श्रेयसं वच: । इति संचिन्त्य ते पुत्रो नोत्तरं प्रत्यपद्यत,विदुरजीने जो कल्याणकारी वचन कहा था, उसके अनुसार ही यह संकट प्राप्त हुआ है। ऐसा सोचकर आपके पुत्रसे कोई उत्तर देते न बना
tad idaṃ samanuprāptaṃ kṣattur niḥśreyasaṃ vacaḥ | iti saṃcintya te putro nottaraṃ pratyapadyata |
“Inilah bencana yang datang tepat sebagaimana nasihat yang membawa kebaikan dari Ksattra (Vidura),” demikian ia merenung; maka putramu tak menemukan jawaban apa pun.
संजय उवाच
Wholesome counsel (niḥśreyasaṃ vacaḥ), when ignored, later appears as an undeniable truth through suffering. The verse highlights moral accountability: calamity is not merely ‘fate’ but the fruition of disregarded ethical guidance.
Sanjaya reports that Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s son, recalling Vidura’s earlier beneficial warnings, recognizes that the present crisis has unfolded exactly as foretold. Overcome by this realization, he is unable to respond.
