Śaineya’s Breakthrough and Reunion with Arjuna (शैनेयस्य समागमः)
तव निर्गुणतां ज्ञात्वा पक्षपातं सुतेषु च । द्वैधीभावं तथा धर्मे पाण्डवेषु च मत्सरम्
sañjaya uvāca | tava nirguṇatāṃ jñātvā pakṣapātaṃ suteṣu ca | dvaidhībhāvaṃ tathā dharme pāṇḍaveṣu ca matsaram | nṛpaśreṣṭha! sampūrṇa-lokānāṃ tattvajñaḥ sarva-lokeśvaraḥ bhagavān śrīkṛṣṇaḥ yadā etaj jñātvā, tadā kaurava-pāṇḍavayoḥ mahāyuddhasya āyojanaṃ cakāra |
Sañjaya berkata: “Wahai raja terbaik, ketika Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa—yang mengetahui hakikat semua dunia dan Penguasa segala alam—memahami ketiadaan kebajikan dalam dirimu, keberpihakanmu kepada putra-putramu, kebimbanganmu tentang dharma, dan kedengkianmu terhadap para Pāṇḍava, maka Ia pun menyebabkan pecahnya perang besar antara Kaurava dan Pāṇḍava.”
संजय उवाच
Moral failure in leadership—favoritism, indecision about dharma, and envy—creates conditions where conflict becomes inevitable; the verse frames the war as arising from ethical collapse, while also acknowledging Kṛṣṇa’s overarching knowledge and agency in bringing events to their culmination.
Sañjaya addresses Dhṛtarāṣṭra, stating that Kṛṣṇa recognized Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s partiality toward his sons and his hostility toward the Pāṇḍavas; upon understanding this entrenched disposition, Kṛṣṇa proceeded to arrange the great Kaurava–Pāṇḍava war.
