Kṛṣṇa-vīrya-kathana
Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s appraisal of Vāsudeva’s deeds
लोकानां गुरुरत्यर्थ लोकनाथ: सनातन: । नारायणो रणे नाथो दिव्यो दिव्यात्मक: प्रभु:,भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण सम्पूर्ण जगत्के परम गुरु हैं, समस्त लोकोंके सनातन स्वामी हैं, संग्रामभूमिमें सबकी रक्षा करनेवाले दिव्य स्वरूप, सामर्थ्यशाली, दिव्य नारायण हैं
lokānāṃ gurur atyarthaṃ lokanāthaḥ sanātanaḥ | nārāyaṇo raṇe nātho divyo divyātmakaḥ prabhuḥ ||
Waiśampāyana berkata: “Śrī Kṛṣṇa adalah guru tertinggi bagi semua makhluk, Tuhan abadi bagi segala dunia. Di medan perang Ia menjadi pelindung dan tumpuan semua—Nārāyaṇa yang ilahi, berhakikat ilahi, Sang Penguasa.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse asserts Kṛṣṇa’s supreme status: he is the eternal Lord and universal teacher, and in the moral crisis of war he functions as the protecting refuge. Ethically, it frames rightful action in battle as grounded in divine guidance and guardianship rather than mere human power.
Vaiśampāyana, narrating the events of the Kurukṣetra war, offers a reverential identification of Kṛṣṇa with Nārāyaṇa, emphasizing that amid the battlefield’s peril he is the divine protector and sovereign presence for all.
