इदानीं च विजानामि सुकृतं मधुसूदन । कृतं राज्ञा महाबाहो याचता च सुयोधनम्,महाबाहु मधुसूदन! राजा युधिष्ठिरने दुर्योधनसे पहले जो याचना की थी, वही उत्तम कार्य था; यह बात अब मेरी समझमें आ रही है
idānīṃ ca vijānāmi sukṛtaṃ madhusūdana | kṛtaṃ rājñā mahābāho yācatā ca suyodhanam ||
Kini aku mengerti, wahai Madhusūdana—wahai yang berlengan perkasa! Bahwa jalan yang benar ialah tindakan raja Yudhiṣṭhira ketika ia memohon perdamaian kepada Suyodhana; itulah perbuatan terbaik dan selaras dengan dharma.
संजय उवाच
Even when war seems inevitable, dharma favors exhausting peaceful, fair options first. Sanjaya recognizes Yudhiṣṭhira’s attempt to negotiate with Duryodhana as a morally superior act—an ethical safeguard that establishes the justice of one’s cause and reduces culpability for the violence that follows.
In the Bhīṣma Parva war narrative, Sanjaya reflects on earlier events and tells Kṛṣṇa (Madhusūdana) that Yudhiṣṭhira’s prior act of requesting terms from Suyodhana (Duryodhana) was truly the best course. It is a retrospective moral assessment made amid the unfolding conflict.
