pādātāś cāpy adṛśyanta nighnanto 'tha parasparam | citrarūpadharāḥ śūrā nakharaprāsayodhinaḥ ||
Lalu para prajurit pejalan kaki pun tampak saling menumbangkan—para kesatria berwujud aneka rupa, bertempur dengan senjata bercakar dan dengan tombak.
संजय उवाच
The verse is primarily descriptive, yet it implicitly highlights the moral gravity of war: in the crush of mutual killing, warriors become defined by weapons and roles, reminding the listener that dharma in battle is not abstract but enacted amid fear, courage, and harm.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the infantry are visibly engaged in close fighting, striking each other down; the fighters appear in varied forms and are armed with claw-like weapons and spears.
