अहन्यहनि पार्थानां वृद्ध: कुरुपितामह: । भीष्मो दश सहस्राणि जघान परवीरहा,तात! पूर्वकालमें परम बुद्धिमान् परशुरामजीने उन यशस्वी भीष्मको शत्रु-सेनाका विनाश करनेवाली जो अस्त्रशिक्षा प्रदान की थी, उसका आश्रय लेकर पाण्डवपक्षीय शत्रु- सेनाका संहार करते हुए कुरुकुलके वृद्ध पितामह एवं शत्रुवीरोंका नाश करनेवाले भीष्म नित्यप्रति दस हजार मुख्य योद्धाओंका वध करते आ रहे थे

Sañjaya berkata: “Dari hari ke hari, Bhīṣma—kakek agung wangsa Kuru, pembunuh para pahlawan lawan—terus menewaskan sepuluh ribu prajurit Pārtha (Pāṇḍava).”
