Chapter 49
अहिंसानिरताश्षान्ये केचिद् हिंसापरायणा: । पुण्येन यशसा चान्ये नैतदस्तीति चापरे,अन्य कई लोग अहिंसा-धर्मका पालन करनेमें रुचि रखते हैं और कई लोग हिंसाके परायण हैं। दूसरे कई पुण्य और यशसे सम्पन्न हैं। इनसे भिन्न दूसरे कहते हैं कि 'यह सब कुछ नहीं है”
ahiṁsā-niratāś cānye kecid hiṁsā-parāyaṇāḥ | puṇyena yaśasā cānye naitad astīti cāpare ||
Vāyudeva berkata: “Sebagian teguh pada dharma ahimsa, sementara yang lain condong pada kekerasan. Sebagian dikenal karena kebajikan dan nama baik; namun ada pula yang berbeda dari mereka dan berkata, ‘Semua ini tidak sungguh ada.’”
वायुदेव उवाच
Human beings follow divergent ethical orientations: some uphold ahiṁsā, some pursue hiṁsā, some seek moral merit and social honor, and some reject the very reality or value of such distinctions. The verse highlights moral plurality and the presence of denialist or nihilistic attitudes alongside dharmic ideals.
Vāyudeva is speaking and classifying different kinds of people by their conduct and worldview—those devoted to non-violence, those inclined to violence, those marked by merit and fame, and those who deny that these categories have any real standing.
