प्रकृत्यात्मकमेवाहू रज: पर्यायकारकम् । प्रवृत्तं सर्वभूतेषु दृश्यमुत्पत्तिलक्षणम्,रजोगुणको प्रकृतिरूप बतलाया गया है, यह सृष्टिकी उत्पत्तिका कारण है। सम्पूर्ण भूतोंमें इसकी प्रवृत्ति देखी जाती है। यह दृश्य जगत् उसीका स्वरूप है, उत्पत्ति या प्रवृत्ति ही उसका लक्षण है
prakṛtyātmakam evāhu rajaḥ paryāyakārakam | pravṛttaṃ sarvabhūteṣu dṛśyam utpattilakṣaṇam ||
Rajas dinyatakan sebagai hakikat Prakṛti sendiri—prinsip yang menggerakkan perubahan. Ia bekerja dalam semua makhluk dan tampak di mana-mana; dunia yang termanifestasi memikul tandanya—ciri rajas adalah kemunculan (kelahiran) dan aktivitas yang tiada henti.
