True radiance (tejas) in human life comes from dharmic generosity—especially the gift of prosperous land to a genuinely Veda-learned Brahmin—because it supports sacred learning and is praised as a high form of dana.
In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma is instructing Yudhishthira on dharma and the fruits of various gifts. Here he extols bhu-dana (land-gift) given to a qualified Veda-knower, saying such donors shine on earth like the solar deities.
