Adhyāya 57: Tapas–Dāna Phala
On the Fruits of Austerity and Giving
samprekṣyovāca nṛpatiṁ kṣipram āgamyatām iti | ity uktaḥ sahabhāryas tu so 'bhyagacchan mahāmunim ||
The verse highlights the ethical value of promptness and compliance when righteous instruction is given, and it models proper conduct: a ruler should not delay in seeking or following dharmic guidance, and should approach venerable sages respectfully, even bringing one’s household into alignment with that duty.
Someone, after observing the situation, tells the king to come quickly. The king, having received this instruction, proceeds—along with his wife—to the great sage, indicating an imminent consultation or audience with an authoritative ascetic.
