Adhyāya 57: Tapas–Dāna Phala
On the Fruits of Austerity and Giving
The verse underscores reverence for spiritually potent lineages (Bhārgavas) and conveys that extraordinary inner merit and tapas are mirrored by extraordinary surroundings; it frames ethical authority as something recognized and honored, not merely asserted.
Bhīṣma describes a vision/scene: within a golden vimāna adorned with gem-pillars, he sees Bhṛgu’s descendant reclining on a splendid divine couch, emphasizing the figure’s exalted status.
