अध्याय ५६ — च्यवन–कुशिकसंवादः

Cyavana–Kuśika Dialogue on Lineage, Conflict, and Transmission

वे फिर यथास्थान खड़े होकर मुनिके पैर दबाने लगे। अबकी बार वे महामुनि दूसरी करवटसे सोये थे ।।

tenaiva ca sa kālena pratyabuddhyata vīryavān | na ca tau cakratuḥ kiñcid vikāraṃ bhayaśaṅkitau ||

Mereka kembali berdiri pada tempat masing-masing dan memijat kaki sang muni; kali ini sang maharsi tidur dengan beralih ke sisi yang lain. Setelah selang waktu yang sama, resi Cyavana yang perkasa itu terjaga lagi. Sang raja dan permaisuri, diliputi cemas karena takut kepadanya, tidak membiarkan sedikit pun perubahan sikap atau raut tampak pada diri mereka, dan tetap melayani seperti semula.

Even under fear or pressure, one should maintain self-control and steadiness in conduct; dharmic service requires composure and absence of reactive ‘vikāra’ (disturbance).

The powerful sage (Chyavana) wakes after the same span of sleep. The king and queen, wary of offending him, keep their demeanor unchanged and continue attending to him without showing agitation.
