Aṣṭāvakra and the Woman: Disclosure, Permission, and Marital Resolution (अनुशासन पर्व, अध्याय २२)
तस्य स्वादुतयान्नस्य न प्रभूतं चकार सः । व्यगमच्चाप्यह:शेषं ततः संध्यागमत् पुन:
tasya svādutayānnasya na prabhūtaṃ cakāra saḥ | vyagamac cāpy ahaḥśeṣaṃ tataḥ sandhyāgamat punaḥ ||
Bhishma berkata: Begitu terpikat ia oleh kelezatan hidangan itu hingga ia tak sanggup menganggapnya cukup—ia tak dapat berkata, “Cukup, telah selesai.” Dalam kenikmatan itu sisa hari pun berlalu, dan sekali lagi tibalah senja.
भीष्म उवाच
Unchecked attraction to sensory pleasure (here, taste) can dull discernment of sufficiency and cause neglect of time-bound duties; dharma requires moderation and awareness of time.
A person becomes so absorbed in the sweetness of the food that he cannot stop or declare it enough; as he continues, the day passes and evening twilight arrives again, implying missed or delayed obligations.
