Śiva-stavarāja: Upamanyu’s Preface and Initiation of the Śarva-Nāma Enumeration
Anuśāsana-parva 17
निवेदन: सुखाजात: सुगन्धारो महाधनु: । गन्धपाली च भगवानुत्थान: सर्वकर्मणाम्
nivedanaḥ sukhājātaḥ sugandhāro mahādhanuḥ | gandhapālī ca bhagavān utthānaḥ sarvakarmaṇām ||
Vāyu bersabda: “Ia disebut Nivedana—bebas dari segala gelombang batin, teguh dalam pengetahuan murni; Sukha-jāta—tampak sebagai kebahagiaan ketika semua gerak lenyap; Sugandhāra—bersemayam dalam keharuman terbaik; Mahā-dhanuḥ—pemangku busur agung Pināka; dan Bhagavān Gandha-pālī—Tuhan, penjaga keharuman mulia. Dialah Utthāna segala perbuatan: sumber tempat tiap tindakan bangkit dan bertahan.”
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse praises the Lord through epithets that link inner spiritual realization (knowledge beyond mental fluctuations, bliss arising when vṛttis subside) with cosmic lordship (bearer of Pināka) and causality (the foundation from which all actions arise). Ethically, it frames devotion as recognizing the divine as both the inner ground of consciousness and the outer source of ordered action.
Vāyu is speaking a eulogy-like description, listing names/attributes of the deity. The sequence functions as a devotional identification: the Lord is characterized by spiritual qualities (stillness, bliss), auspicious signs (fragrance), iconic weaponry (great bow), protective power, and as the originating basis of all karmic activity.
