Conduct of the Virtuous Wife
इति वेदोक्तमृषिभि: पुरस्तात् परिकल्पितम् | इदानीं चैव न: कृत्यं पुरस्ताच्च परिश्रुतम्
iti vedoktam ṛṣibhiḥ purastāt parikalpitam | idānīṃ caiva naḥ kṛtyaṃ purastāc ca pariśrutam ||
“Demikianlah, sesuai sabda Veda, para resi sejak dahulu telah menetapkannya. Kita pun telah mendengarnya dari masa lampau, dan sekarang juga menjadi kewajiban kita untuk menjalankan titah Veda ini.”
व्यास उवाच
That dharma is grounded in Vedic injunctions and the ancient seers’ established practice; what has been transmitted and heard from olden times remains binding as present duty.
Vyāsa affirms that a certain rule of conduct being discussed is not novel: it was prescribed long ago by ṛṣis in line with the Veda, is well-known by tradition, and therefore must be followed now as an obligation.
