मांसपरिवर्जन-प्रशंसा (Praise of Abstention from Meat) / Ethics of Ahiṃsā in Diet and Rite
ब॒हस्पतिर्वाच कृत्वा पापानि कर्माणि अधर्मवशमागत: । मनसा विपरीतेन निरयं प्रतिपद्यते
Bṛhaspatir uvāca: kṛtvā pāpāni karmāṇi adharmavaśam āgataḥ | manasā viparītena nirayaṁ pratipadyate ||
Bṛhaspati berkata: “Wahai Raja, ketika seseorang melakukan perbuatan dosa dan jatuh di bawah kuasa adharma, pikirannya berbelok ke jalan yang berlawanan dengan dharma; karena itu ia jatuh ke neraka.”
युधिछ्िर उवाच
Sinful action strengthens adharma’s hold; once the mind becomes oriented against dharma, the person naturally proceeds toward painful karmic results, described here as falling into niraya (hell).
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction on conduct, Bṛhaspati speaks as a moral authority, explaining to the listener (in this dialogue context) how wrongdoing reshapes the mind and leads to severe consequences.
