Ādi-parva Adhyāya 132 — Duryodhana’s Instructions to Purocana at Vāraṇāvata

तांस्तु सर्वान् समानीय सर्वविद्यास्त्रशिक्षितान् । द्रोण: प्रहरणज्ञाने जिज्ञासु: पुरुषर्षभ:
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
tāṁs tu sarvān samānīya sarvavidyāstra-śikṣitān |
droṇaḥ praharaṇa-jñāne jijñāsuḥ puruṣarṣabhaḥ ||
Waiśampāyana berkata: Ketika semua pangeran itu telah terlatih sepenuhnya dalam segala cabang ilmu dan dalam ilmu senjata, Droṇa—yang terbaik di antara manusia—mengumpulkan mereka semua, berkehendak menguji dan memastikan kemahiran sejati mereka dalam pengetahuan serta penggunaan senjata.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Powerful skills—especially martial knowledge—require verification and responsible oversight. The teacher’s duty is not only to instruct but also to assess competence before such abilities are put to use, aligning training with restraint and accountability.
After completing the princes’ education in learning and weaponry, Droṇa convenes them with the intention of testing their mastery of arms, setting up the well-known demonstrations and evaluations of their skills.
