Lord Vishnu (in dialogue with Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Śāstra-holding/engagement grants ‘naya’ (right guidance); śravaṇa/paṭhana yields both worldly flourishing (bhukti) and liberation (mukti).

Vedantic Theme: Sādhana-catuṣṭaya support: śāstra as guide to viveka and vairāgya; integration of artha/kāma within dharma culminating in mokṣa.

Application: Treat study as lived guidance: read, reflect, and implement one actionable instruction; combine with nāma-japa and ethical discipline for ‘bhukti-mukti’ balance.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Related Themes: Garuda Purana: repeated promise of bhukti-mukti through Viṣṇu-oriented practice and śāstra-śravaṇa

FAQs

This verse presents a phala-śruti: reading or even listening to the Garuḍa Purāṇa grants both practical well-being (bhukti) and spiritual freedom (mukti), and provides direct guidance (nayaḥ).

By emphasizing ‘nayaḥ’ (right guidance) and ‘mukti’ (liberation), it frames the text as a practical guide that leads one from worldly life toward release—central to the Purāṇa’s teachings on dharma, rites, and the afterlife.

Keep regular śravaṇa/pāṭha (listening/reading) of the Garuḍa Purāṇa, and apply its ethical guidance in daily conduct; treat scripture as a living manual for dharma, not only a funeral-time text.
