Śrāddha-bheda-nirūpaṇa: Nitya, Vṛddhi, Nāndīmukha, and Ekoḍḍiṣṭa Procedures
ततः प्रपितामहीप्रभृतीनामनुज्ञापनमासनदानं गन्धादिदानञ्च अच्छिद्रावधारणवाचनम् / इत्थं पितामह्याः मातुः / ततः प्रपितामहादीनां अनुज्ञापनम् / आसनमावाहनङ्गन्धादिदानं-वृद्धप्रमातामहादीनामनुज्ञापनादिकरणम् / ॐ वसुसत्यसंज्ञकेभ्यो देवेभ्य एतदन्नं सघृतं सपानीयं सव्यञ्जनं सवदरं सदधि प्रतिषिद्धवर्जितं नम इति अन्नसङ्कल्पनम् / ॐ अमुकगोत्रे ! मत्पितामहमुकदेवि नान्दीमुखि ! एतदन्नं सबदरं सदधि नमः / एवं मातामहप्रभातामहेभ्यः
tataḥ prapitāmahīprabhṛtīnāmanujñāpanamāsanadānaṃ gandhādidānañca acchidrāvadhāraṇavācanam / itthaṃ pitāmahyāḥ mātuḥ / tataḥ prapitāmahādīnāṃ anujñāpanam / āsanamāvāhanaṅgandhādidānaṃ-vṛddhapramātāmahādīnāmanujñāpanādikaraṇam / oṃ vasusatyasaṃjñakebhyo devebhya etadannaṃ saghṛtaṃ sapānīyaṃ savyañjanaṃ savadaraṃ sadadhi pratiṣiddhavarjitaṃ nama iti annasaṅkalpanam / oṃ amukagotre ! matpitāmahamukadevi nāndīmukhi ! etadannaṃ sabadaraṃ sadadhi namaḥ / evaṃ mātāmahaprabhātāmahebhyaḥ
Sesudah itu, mintalah izin kepada para leluhur perempuan—prapitāmahī dan yang lebih tua—berikan āsana, persembahkan wewangian dan sebagainya, lalu ucapkan rumus penjaga ‘acchidra’ (tanpa cela). Demikian pula untuk ibu dari nenek. Berikutnya, mohon izin kepada para prapitāmaha dan para sesepuh; berikan āsana, lakukan āvāhana, persembahkan wewangian dan lainnya—juga untuk para leluhur pihak ibu yang lebih tua. Lalu lakukan saṅkalpa makanan: “Om. Kepada para Deva yang dikenal sebagai Vasu dan Satya, kupersembahkan makanan ini—dengan ghee, air, lauk, buah badar/jujube, dan dadhi (yogurt)—bebas dari yang terlarang; hormat.” Kemudian: “Om. Wahai (leluhur) dari gotra anu! Wahai kakekku anu, dan Dewi Nāndīmukhī! Makanan ini dengan badar dan dadhi; hormat.” Demikian pula kepada kakek dari pihak ibu dan leluhur sebelumnya.

Concept: Śrāddha is relational dharma: offerings must be correctly addressed (gotra, names, maternal line) and purified (forbidden items avoided) to be efficacious.
Vedantic Theme: Karma performed with right saṅkalpa and śuddhi (purity) becomes a means of inner refinement and social-cosmic harmony.
Application: Include maternal and elder ancestresses/ancestors explicitly; make a clear food-saṅkalpa listing components and exclusions; address recipients by gotra and relation to avoid ‘misdelivery’ of offerings.

This verse treats anujñā as a required ritual step: the performer formally requests the ancestors’ assent before seating, invoking, and offering food—ensuring the rite is “acchidra” (without defect).
It explicitly sequences offerings across elder generations (great-grandmothers/great-grandfathers) and includes the maternal line (mātāmaha and earlier maternal ancestors), showing that śrāddha addresses both lineages with parallel procedures.
Perform śrāddha with clarity and completeness: maintain clean, non-prohibited food, state a clear saṅkalpa, and remember both paternal and maternal ancestors respectfully rather than treating the ritual as a mere formality.
