Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda/Vinata-putra in a compendium style; verse includes a vocative to Śiva as an honorific)
Dosha: Vata
Concept: Care of the body as a support for righteous living; disciplined application of remedies.
Vedantic Theme: Śarīra as sādhana-upakaraṇa (instrument for practice); balance and purification as prerequisites for higher pursuits.
Application: Prepare turmeric repeatedly processed with snuhī latex into pills; apply paste; use ghoṣā-phala with rock-salt as adjunct—under competent guidance due to snuhī’s irritant latex.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.186 (Ayurvedic/medical section on arśas and agni)
It prescribes turmeric repeatedly infused with snuhī latex, formed into pills, and also mentions applying the paste; additionally, ghoṣā-phala with rock-salt ground together is described as an excellent hemorrhoid-removing remedy.
This specific verse is medical/therapeutic in nature (a remedies section) rather than describing the soul’s journey, Yama’s realm, or śrāddha rites.
It highlights the tradition of herbal-mineral preparations (pills and topical pastes). In modern practice, such formulations should be approached through qualified Ayurvedic guidance, especially since snuhī latex can be irritant.
