Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda)
Concept: Dāna (dakṣiṇā) and niyama (regulated consumption) complete a rite; one eats only after honoring the ritual recipients.
Vedantic Theme: Karma-yoga orientation: right action with order and restraint purifies the mind (antaḥkaraṇa-śuddhi).
Application: In any religious observance, prioritize giving/service first; then eat mindfully with simple sāttvika items, avoiding indulgence.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: domestic-ritual-space

This verse places dakṣiṇā first—before one’s own consumption—indicating that honoring qualified priests/reciters and completing the rite properly is an essential part of dharmic ritual order.
Indirectly: it emphasizes correct ritual conduct and offerings, which the Garuda Purana repeatedly links with support to the departed (preta) and the maintenance of dharma that benefits one’s post-death journey.
When performing śrāddha or related rites, prioritize respectful giving (dakṣiṇā/charity) and keep offerings simple and sattvic—milk and staple foods—done with order and sincerity.
