yó vái kurvántaṃ nā́ma ṛtúṃ véda | kurvatī́ṃ kurvatīm evā́priyasya bhrā́tṛvyasya śríyam ā́ datte | eṣá vái kurván nā́ma ṛtúr yád ajáḥ pañcáudanáḥ | nír evā́priyasya bhrā́tṛvyasya śríyaṃ dahati bhávāty ātmánā | yó ’jáṃ pañcáudanáṃ dákṣiṇā-jyótiṣaṃ dádāti
Whoso, in sooth, knoweth by name the season called Kurvant, he draweth unto himself—yea, the very Kurvatī— the splendour of the unfriendly rival. This, verily, is the season Kurvant, to wit, the goat with the fivefold rice-porridge. He burneth clean away the rival’s splendour and maketh it his own, even he who bestoweth the goat and the fivefold porridge, a gift made luminous by the priestly fee.
