ऊर्ध्वज्वलज्वलनं ज्योतिरग्रे तमो वै तिरश्श्चीनमजरं तद्रजोऽभूत् । आनन्दनं मोदनं ज्योतिरिन्दो रेता उ वै मण्डला मण्डयन्ति॥४॥

IAST Transliteration

ūrdhva-jvala-jvalanaṃ jyotir agre tamo vai tiraśścīnam ajaraṃ tad rajo 'bhūt | ānandanam modanaṃ jyotir indo reta u vai maṇḍalā maṇḍayanti ||4||

Translation

आदि में ऊपर की ओर प्रज्वलित, प्रज्वलित परम ज्योति प्रकट होती है; अन्धकार तिरछा-सा स्थित है, वही अजर होकर रज (धूल/रजोगुण) बन जाता है। चन्द्रमा की ज्योति आनन्ददायिनी और प्रमोदकारिणी है; रेत (बीज-तत्त्व) से मण्डल सजते हैं।

Academic Translation

At the beginning there is the upward-blazing, blazing Light; darkness indeed lies crosswise; that (darkness), undecaying, became the dust (rajas). The Light of the moon is gladdening and delighting; indeed the circles (or spheres) are adorned by the seed (retaḥ).
